What to expect
You should expect the appointment to take one hour. Typically the assessment performed by an AWA professional mold inspector will begin with a visual inspection. This is where we will go through your home looking for mold that might be growing in areas where it’s very common to have mold growth. If there are any visual signs of mold, your inspector may take a physical sampling and take it to a lab for testing. The lab test will tell us which type of mold you have growing in your home, allowing you to make a better decision on how to handle the situation. After the visual inspection, we may also take an air quality sample. This is a test that is performed by taking a sample of the air in order to collect mold spores that may be floating around in the air. This will allow us to know for sure if there are any problem areas in your home.
Why do you need a professional test?
There are two main reasons why you should get a professional test. DIY kits use low-quality equipment that doesn’t have the sensitivity level to pick up on mold that might be growing behind surfaces where it’s dark and damp. This often leads to the mold continuing to grow to the point it becomes a very bad problem and is also very expensive to remove.
Is Mold Dangerous?
Mold can be dangerous especially to anyone who has a weakened immune system or respiratory issues. It’s common for mold exposure to increase asthma attacks and even be a cause for pneumonia which is incredibly harmful to even the healthiest people.
