What to expect
The mold inspection process usually takes one hour. Every appointment begins with a visual inspection that consists of looking at the more common areas where mold could be growing due to water leaks or floods. If one of AWA Environmental’s professional mold inspectors finds any mold, they will take a physical sample to their lab to do some testing to figure out what type of mold you have growing in your home. After the visual inspection, there will be an air quality test using highly sensitive professional air testing equipment.
Why do you need an air quality test?
The reason you would want an air quality test is that mold likes to grow in dark and damp areas. This means mold isn’t usually visible until its too late. Mold usually starts growing after water comes into contact with porous material that allows it to soak all the way through and start growing on the other side that’s usually hidden from view.
How effective are DIY kits?
DIY kits can be effective, but they can’t certify that the area is free of mold. As mentioned before, mold usually grows behind walls and under other materials. DIY kits don’t have the sensitivity levels that allow them to pick up on mold that’s hidden from view. For this reason, if you want to feel perfectly secure that the mold has been removed, it’s best to go through a professional that can certify that the mold has been remediated. Often times, if you don’t detect it early enough it continues to grow and get extremely expensive to remove.
