What to expect
You should expect the mold inspection to take up to an hour. Typically AWA mold assessments start with a visual inspection of all the areas in the home that usually allow mold to grow. These are areas where it’s very normal for water to leak or cause flooding. If the professional doing the assessment finds mold, he may take a sample and take it to his lab where he will have it tested to know exactly which type of mold you have growing in your home in order to know how it can be handled properly. After the visual inspection, the person doing the assessment may also take an air sample in order to test the air quality to see if and which types of mold spores are floating in the air of the affected area.
Why do you need a professional test?
Mold likes to grow in areas that are very dark, hard to reach, and damp. This usually means that water seeps into a very porous material like your carpet pad, drywall, or wood and soaks all the way through to the other side where it’s nice and dark. This allows mold to grow and after a while maintain itself through moisture in the air. Because of mold’s tendency to grow in very dark and hard to reach areas, it’s very difficult to get a proper reading with a DIY kit. Professional testing uses innovative technology with very high sensitivity settings that can capture even the smallest amounts of mold spores in the air. This allows you to recognize and remedy the issue before the mold continues to grow so you can fix the issues before it becomes extremely expensive to remove.
